The Planets

This project is from my typography II class where we were tasked with creating a poster to promote Gustav Holst’s The Planets concert. We were given one song to listen to with no context and had to create an image using only typographic characters and symbols that represents what we heard in the music.

My poster focuses on the idea of the ellipses relating to the middle portion of the music where there is an abrupt stop in the music before it picks back up in an explosion of sound. I wanted to capture this to be continued through the center of each of the rings and the eruption of chaos that comes after through the repetition of the rings throughout the piece. The image supports the typography as it visually guides the eye upward diagonally through the composition.
